This recursive story was one of many traditional stories and songs my mother shared as I grew up. Known widely in many different iterations, the never-ending circle of words and her dramatic delivery delighted me. The version told here takes place on a ship, with the first mate requesting a story and the captain eventually telling it. Edition sold out.
