Darkness Blooms holds seven watercolor paintings of night-blooming flowers in an historic paper binding known as a harlequinade or metamorphosis book. The structure allows for each flower to be shown in its closed daytime state, with its night blossom revealed underneath. Most gardens are lively in the sunshine, with bold colors and showy blooms, but there are moon gardens also, filled with plants whose flowers open in the dark and often their fragrance intensifies. These plants add to the beauty and mystery of the night. Includes two separate leaves, one noting the genus and species of each plant, the other a colophon.
